Italian Hybrid (Gentle Breed) Queen Honey Bees For Sale

Please note: When starting a new bee hive, you need to purchase a package of bees with a queen, not just a queen. Without the 2 or 3 pounds of bees to take care of her, the queen will not be able to survive and will die. These mated queens are for queening an existing hive or splits in the spring time.

Please place a separate order for equipment; queen bees need to be shipped on their own, so any equipment and/or supplies will be billed for shipping separately by our website, and the shipping will be billed as UPS Next Day Air.

Cancellations are not accepted within 3 days of the selected ship out date.

Lappe's Bee Supply offers some of the best mated Italian Hybrid queen bees for sale online! Queens will be shipped from April through the end of August. Queens will arrive in California mini queen cages or 3 hole queen cages. Regardless of whichever type of queen cage your queen arrives in, there will be a candy plug already in one end filled with queen candy. We recommend leaving this plug in when placing your new queen into the hive. Lappe's Bee Supply is not responsible for anything that happens because the bee keeper makes the choice to remove the candy plug or the queen candy from the queen cage. It is always better to allow her to stay in the queen cage with the candy plug intact, to give the worker bees time to get familiar with her pheromone and get her out of the cage themselves.

Queen honey bees from Lappe's Bee Supply are guaranteed to be alive upon arrival (certain conditions apply). Queen replacement for queens DOA is always at the discretion of LBS and needs to be reported right upon arrival; please contact us with the details. If not reported at the time of arrival we are unable to replace or refund any queen bees. We adhere to time of arrival as noted on UPS tracking numbers. Acceptable methods of contacting us include phone and email.

Queens cannot survive for long outside of honeybee hives! Your queen needs to be inside of the beehive where the worker bees can feed her and give her water and food. It is imperative to introduce the queen as soon as possible after being delivered by UPS. Please do not leave queen bees sitting on the counter overnight!

Italian Honey Bees Information

Italian hygienic Hybrid honey bees are the most recommended for beginning bee keeping, because they are very gentle and easy for the beekeeper to work with, and they are excellent pollinators. Because of these characteristics, the Italian Hybrid bee is considered to be the best all purpose bee for keeping bees. These queens have been used a lot by our customers in the southern states to requeen swarms of Africanized honey bees. Our Italian Hybrid queen bees are extremely more gentle than Southern raised Italian queen bees; Hybrid bees have a much better disposition towards human interaction and are easier to manage.

The queens lay a lot of eggs starting early in the spring, which makes them build up their populations early, and they are able to maintain the high populations in the bee hives through out the summer months. This in turn increases the amount of foraging that they are able to do, for high honey production during honey flows. Another benefit of having a strong colony is that the bees are better able to resist wax moths and other bee colony pests more efficiently. Italian Hybrid honeybees can easily adapt to most climates, they overwinter well, and the worker bees are also good at keeping a clean hive. One downside with the higher populations and honey production is that if you don't keep an eye on them, they can fill up the brood nests and honey supers quickly and prepare to swarm.

Italian Hybrid honey bees also have a very good Varroa mite resistance, due to their combined genetics between the VSH Minnesota Hygienic Italian bees and Carniolan bees; however, we still strongly recommend treating your bees for mites every spring and every fall, since there is no such thing as a completely mite resistant honey bee. Treating them will get rid of the mites, which will make the bees healthier and stronger, and will result in better colonies and higher honey productions. If you are looking for Italian Hybrid gentle breed honey bee queens for sale near me, Lappe's Bee Supply is the answer! Could not have been more pleased. The post office delivered on a Tuesday after queens were shipped on Saturday. But they called me and the queens arrived in very good order. Packaging was fantastic. And I was happy to place a second order. Specially liked all of the stickers that warned of heat exposure, live bees etc. I didn't expect a phone call but it did say on the packaging to call and I appreciated that too.

Very professional...will use again. Had a small hiccup with the post office that sorted itself but before it did they totally stood with me and behind their product. I opened the hive one week after requeening and saw her going about her business, an egg in about every open cell and plenty of open brood. Can't beat that!

    Italian Queens

I ordered 3 Italian hybrid queens from lappes bee supply for shipment on June 19th. The box arrived at the post office on June 21st as expected. All bees were lively and in good condition and very well packaged. I installed them that day and all were released on June the 23rd when I checked on them but were not laying eggs yet. I was not able to check on them again until July 1st. Sadly one was evidently killed by the bees after a favorable reaction on introduction. Not very surprised at that one. The hive that I placed her in was not one of my nicer colonies and I had found the queen and made a nuc with her and hoped her population would accept a new queen and the extra numbers would give her a head start on the other two but that backfired. I never saw the other two queens but they are laying eggs now like gangbusters. Lots of open brood where the capped brood I had given them has been emerging. They are doing so well I gave them another nuc box with drawn comb and will update later as they build up. Really too soon to extrapolate much but it looks really good in the early stages.
