You can leave the drawer out during the hot summer months to provide proper ventilation for your hive. 10 Frame Screened Inner Cover - Air is allowed to flow through because the two thicker sides of the screen frame hold the lid up slightly. These screened inner covers work with both our telescoping lids and our flat lids.

I purchased this ventilation kit to improve hive ventilation in the hot desert! I live in New Mexico where temperatures in the Summer get 110+ during our hottest time of the year. This product greatly improved the airflow and decreased the bee bearding. It also helps control the moisture levels in the hive. I highly recommend.

10 Frame hive base

I have used many different bases and I like the screen bottoms for a lot of reasons but dislike many because it is difficult to close them up for either the winter or to apply certain treatments. The removable base fits in snuggly to seal up to 95% of the bottom screening. I am looking forward to seeing how everything performs over the next year.
