Product Overview

10 Frame Double Wax Dipped 9-5/8" Deep Hive Body with Triple Wax Coated Frames

Give your colony the ideal foundation for growth with the 10 Frame Double Wax Dipped 9-5/8" Deep Hive Body with Triple Wax Coated Frames from Lappe's Bee Supply. This premium, fully assembled brood box combines our Double Wax Dipped woodenware with your choice of Triple Wax Coated assembled wooden frames or Triple Wax Coated one-piece plastic frames, creating a durable, ready-to-use hive body designed for long-term performance.

Unlike unfinished hive equipment, this deep hive body arrives completely assembled and ready for your bees. There is no painting, staining, or assembly required. Simply place it on your bottom board, install your bees, and let your colony begin building its brood nest.

The 9-5/8-inch deep hive body is the industry standard for brood chambers in 10 Frame Langstroth hives. It provides the queen with generous space for egg laying while giving worker bees room to store pollen and honey reserves that support healthy colony development.

Premium Double Wax Dipped Protection

Every hive body is manufactured by Lappe's Bee Supply and protected using our premium Double Wax Dipping Process.

Each hive body is immersed in hot wax twice, with approximately ten minutes of soaking during each dip. This process removes moisture from the wood while allowing hot wax to penetrate deeply into the wood fibers.

Unlike paint, which protects only the surface, the wax becomes part of the wood itself, helping defend against:

  • Moisture
  • Rot
  • Warping
  • Swelling
  • Mold
  • Weather damage
  • Years of outdoor exposure

Many beekeepers choose Double Wax Dipped equipment because it requires very little maintenance while providing exceptional long-term durability.

Over time, the exterior color may naturally lighten due to sunlight and weather. This cosmetic change does not reduce the protection provided by the wax absorbed into the wood.

Triple Wax Coated Frames for Faster Comb Building

Every hive body includes your choice of premium frames featuring Triple Wax Coated Foundation, offering one of the heaviest wax coatings available in the industry.

Choose from:

  • Assembled Wooden Frames with Triple Wax Coated Foundation
  • Triple Wax Coated One-Piece Plastic Frames

Available in:

  • Natural Yellow
  • Black Foundation
  • Yellow Foundation

The heavy wax coating encourages bees to accept the foundation more quickly and begin drawing comb sooner, helping colonies establish brood nests faster.

Please Note: The wooden frame pieces themselves are intentionally left untreated because they are protected inside the hive. Only the foundation receives the premium Triple Wax coating that encourages rapid comb acceptance.

How This Deep Hive Body Fits Into Your Hive

The deep hive body is the primary brood chamber of a Langstroth hive. It sits directly on the bottom board and houses the frames where the queen lays eggs and the colony raises brood. As the colony expands, additional deep hive bodies or honey supers can be added above to provide more room for bees and honey storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the deep hive body fully assembled?

Yes. The hive body and your selected frames arrive fully assembled and are ready to place into service immediately.

Why are the frames Triple Wax Coated?

Triple Wax Coated foundation features one of the heaviest wax coatings available, helping bees accept the foundation faster and begin drawing comb sooner.

Is the wooden frame itself Double Wax Dipped?

No. The hive body is Double Wax Dipped, while the wooden frame pieces remain untreated because they are protected inside the hive. The foundation receives the premium Triple Wax coating that promotes rapid comb building.

What is a 9-5/8" deep hive body used for?

A 9-5/8-inch deep hive body is typically used as the brood chamber where the queen lays eggs and worker bees raise brood while storing pollen and honey reserves.

Will this fit all standard 10 Frame Langstroth hives?

Yes. This hive body is built to standard 10 Frame Langstroth dimensions and is compatible with most standard 10-frame hive equipment.

Will the Double Wax Dipped finish wear off?

The exterior color may naturally lighten over time due to sun and weather exposure. This is cosmetic only—the wax absorbed into the wood continues protecting the equipment for years without requiring paint.
