Product Overview
Shipped Buckfast Hybrid Live Queen Honey Bees For Sale - Free USA Shipping United States
Please note: When starting a new bee hive, you need to purchase a package of bees with a queen, not just a queen. Without the 2 or 3 pounds of bees to take care of her, the queen will not be able to survive and will die. These mated queens are for queening an existing hive or splits in the spring time.
Please place a separate order for equipment; queen bees need to be shipped on their own, so any equipment and/or supplies will be billed for shipping separately by our website, and the shipping will be billed as UPS Next Day Air.
Cancellations are not accepted within 3 days of the selected ship out date.
Lappe's Bee Supply offers some of the best mated Buckfast Hybrid queen bees for sale online! Queens will be shipped from April through the end of August. Queens will arrive in California mini queen cages, or 3 hole queen cages. Regardless of whichever type of queen cage your queen arrives in, there will be a candy plug already in one end filled with queen candy. We recommend leaving this plug in when placing your new queen into the hive. Lappe's Bee Supply is not responsible for anything that happens because the bee keeper makes the choice to remove the candy plug or the queen candy from the queen cage. It is always better to allow her to stay in the queen cage with the candy plug intact, to give the worker bees time to get familiar with her pheromone and get her out of the cage themselves.
Queen honey bees from Lappe's Bee Supply are guaranteed to be alive upon arrival (certain conditions apply). Queen replacement for queens DOA is always at the discretion of LBS and needs to be reported right upon arrival; please contact us with the details. If not reported within 2 hours of the time of arrival, we will not be able to replace or refund any queen bees. We adhere to time of arrival as noted on UPS tracking numbers. Acceptable methods of contacting us include phone and email.

What Are The Differences Between Buckfast Hybrid & Saskatraz Hybrid Honey Bees?
Temperament: Buckfast Hybrid bees are known for their calm demeanor (gentle towards people), versus Saskatraz Hybrid bees, making them a favorite among beekeepers of all experience levels.
Honey Production: In terms of honey production, both types of bees excel. Buckfast bees are excellent producers, ensuring a bountiful harvest, while Saskatraz bees also yield high amounts of honey. Honey production also depends on the weather conditions each year.
Disease Resistance: Disease resistance is a notable characteristic of Buckfast bees, which are resilient against common diseases. Saskatraz bees, too, are recognized for their strong hygienic behavior. Both breeds of bees are well known for effectively reducing disease spread by actively removing dead or diseased bees from the colony.
Adaptability: Adaptability is another area where Buckfast bees shine, as they thrive in a variety of environments and are particularly excellent at adapting to any type of weather conditions. Both Buckfast Hybrid and Saskatraz Hybrid bees are particularly well-suited for colder climates, where they can maintain health and productivity despite increased disease pressures.
Colony Strength: When it comes to colony strength, both types produce vigorous colonies. However, Buckfast bees tend to be easier to manage due to their generally docile nature. Buckfast Hybrid & Saskatraz Hybrid bees, while requiring attentive management, are both excellent for maximizing health and honey production, especially under stressful conditions.
Buckfast Hybrid Queen Bees and Saskatraz Hybrid Queen Bees share many remarkable qualities, making them both excellent choices for beekeepers. Ultimately, the choice between the two often comes down to personal preference, as both provide exceptional qualities that lead to healthy, productive hives.
What Are The Differences Between Buckfast Hybrid & Italian Hybrid Honey Bees?
Temperament: Buckfast Hybrid and Italian Hybrid bees are renowned for their gentle nature, making them a preferred choice for novice beekeepers. They both exhibit less aggression and are easier to handle compared to some other bee strains.
Honey Production: When it comes to honey production, both Buckfast and Italian Hybrid bees are prolific. Buckfast bees are particularly noted for their high honey yield, especially in varied climates. They demonstrate excellent foraging skills, which can lead to greater harvests. Italian Hybrid bees also produce significant honey, with a preference for warmer climates. Their longer foraging season allows them to capitalize on floral resources effectively, contributing to robust honey production.
Disease Resistance: Disease resistance is an essential aspect of bee health. Buckfast Hybrid bees are bred for exceptional resilience against several common bee diseases and pests, including American foulbrood and Varroa mites. Their ability to maintain hive health is a significant trait for beekeepers. Italian Hybrid bees, while generally healthy, are not as specifically bred for disease resistance, making them more vulnerable in less managed environments.
Adaptability: Buckfast Hybrid bees are known for their adaptability to varying climates and conditions. They perform well in both cool and warm environments, making them versatile for beekeepers in different geographical areas. Italian Hybrid bees thrive in warmer climates, where their foraging efficiency shines, but they may struggle in harsher, colder conditions.
Colony Strength: In terms of colony strength, both strains can develop robust colonies. Buckfast bees often demonstrate rapid brood production, leading to strong, populous hives. Italian bees, however, have a slower buildup but can reach impressive colony sizes when given the right conditions.
In conclusion, both Buckfast Hybrid bees and Italian Hybrid bees offer distinct advantages and potential drawbacks. Choosing between them ultimately depends on the beekeeper's specific goals, environmental conditions, and personal preferences regarding management style. Understanding these differences can lead to better decision-making in the pursuit of successful beekeeping.
What Are The Differences Between Buckfast Hybrid & Carniolan Honey Bees?
Temperament: Buckfast bees are noted for their gentle nature, making them appealing to beekeepers, especially beginners. They tend to be less aggressive, which facilitates easier handling and management of colonies. In contrast, Carniolan bees, known for their docility, can exhibit defensive behavior when provoked. However, they are typically calm and manageable under normal conditions. Both bee types are less prone to swarming compared to others, but Buckfast bees have been selectively bred to further reduce this tendency.
Honey Production: When it comes to honey production, both Buckfast and Carniolan bees are effective, but with some distinctions. Buckfast bees are renowned for their high honey yield and efficiency. They adapt well to a variety of foraging conditions. Carniolan bees are also proficient producers, particularly in cooler climates and during the early spring, which makes them ideal for regions with a shorter blooming season. Generally, Buckfast bees may produce larger quantities, while Carniolan bees excel in specific environments.
Disease Resistance: Disease resistance is a critical factor in bee management. Buckfast hybrid bees display enhanced resistance to common diseases such as American foulbrood, largely thanks to their hybrid vigor. They tend to have better hygiene behavior, which aids in disease control. Carniolan bees also possess a notable resistance to various diseases and pests, including Varroa mites. Their ability to manage brood rearing as conditions fluctuate offers them an advantage in maintaining colony health.
Adaptability: Adaptability is a key strength of both bee types. Buckfast bees thrive in varied environments, showcasing remarkable resilience to changing climatic conditions. This trait enables beekeepers to keep them in diverse regions without significant issues. Carniolan bees, on the other hand, are particularly well-suited for cooler climates and are adept at foraging in low-resource situations, making them ideal for areas with fluctuating environmental conditions.
Colony Strength: Colony strength is vital for successful beekeeping. Buckfast bees typically develop strong and large colonies with robust populations, enhancing their honey production potential. Carniolan bees are known for their rapid buildup in spring, enabling strong colonies quickly, particularly in favorable climates. Both breeds can produce powerful colonies, but their strength can branch from different seasonal patterns and environmental adaptations.
What Are The Differences Between Buckfast Hybrid & Russian Hybrid Honey Bees?
Temperament: Buckfast bees are renowned for their gentle nature, making them suitable for beekeepers, especially those working closely with their colonies. Their docility allows for easier handling, reducing the likelihood of stings. In contrast, Russian hybrid bees can exhibit a more irritable temperament, particularly when disturbed. However, they are known for their defensive properties, making them effective guardians against pests and intruders.
Honey Production: When it comes to honey production, Buckfast bees typically excel. They are known for their high yield and consistent production, often outperforming many other breeds. Buckfast bees are capable of foraging effectively during nectar flows, contributing to abundant honey harvests. Russian hybrids, while competent, often produce less honey compared to Buckfast bees. Their ability to forage is influenced by environmental conditions, which can affect yield but remains satisfactory for many beekeepers.
Disease Resistance: A notable advantage of Russian hybrid bees is their superior disease resistance. They exhibit resilience against common bee ailments, including Varroa mites and other pathogenic threats. This natural resistance reduces the need for chemical treatments, promoting healthier, more sustainable beekeeping practices. Buckfast bees, while relatively resistant, do not share the same level of robustness as Russians, making beekeepers more reliant on management strategies to combat diseases.
Adaptability: Both hybrids display adaptability, but in different contexts. Buckfast bees are versatile and thrive in a range of environments, particularly in temperate climates. They can adjust swiftly to varying conditions, ensuring consistent productivity. Russian hybrids, originally bred in harsh climates, exhibit exceptional adaptability to colder regions, allowing them to survive and thrive in environments unfavorable to other bees.
Colony Strength: In terms of colony strength, both hybrids can build strong hives. Buckfast bees are typically favored for their rapid colony expansion and strong worker bee populations. Russian hybrids also demonstrate a robust colony structure, but they may take longer to develop due to their inherent survival strategies. Nevertheless, both hybrids ultimately contribute positively to a beekeeper's goals.
